Hazcom F.A.Q.: When does training on the new Hazcom standard need to take place?

Hazard Communication - Exclamation PictogramThe answer is simple: as soon as possible.  OSHA required employers to train workers by December 1, 2013.

The training is on the new labels elements and safety data sheets format to facilitate recognition and understanding.

This is the first of a series of Hazard Communication related updates rolling out over the next couple of years.

The Distributor shall not ship containers labeled by the chemical manufacturer or importer unless it is a GHS label

June 1, 2016 Update alternative workplace labeling and hazard communication program as necessary, and provide additional employee training for newly identified physical or health hazards. Employers
Transition Period to the effective completion dates noted above May comply with either 29 CFR 1910.1200 (the final standard), or the current standard, or both Chemical manufacturers, importers, distributors, and employers

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) estimates that 5 million workplaces are subject to this new Hazcom regulation.
