If you’re having a difficult time cooling down your heartburn, here are some helpful tips from Women’s Health Magazine to try:

1) Stand up.

Heartburn’s most common cause is acid reflux,(which is stomach acid that gets up into your esophagus) and staying vertical will help quell the “upward flow.”

2) Chew some gum.

Chewing sugar-free gum for 30 minutes has been known to reduce amounts of acid in the esophagus. Chewing constantly creates more saliva, which in turn makes you swallow more and flush down the acid.

3) Seek an Over the Counter (OTC) aid.
Get some over-the-counter antacids in either tablet or liquid form. “Their main ingredient, aluminum hydroxide, neutralizes acid. (Just be warned: Popping these like candy can lead to gnarly side effects like diarrhea or, in rare cases, kidney stones; see your M.D. if you have chronic heartburn.)”
